Pianello del Lario

We're proud to present this magnificent original Crotto just a few minutes walk from the lake in Pianello del Lario, a picturesque village on the northern coast of Lake Como.

A Crotto ("cròtt" in the local dialect) in the past was the cellar built with the aim of imprisoning the source of fresh air, locally called "Sorèl", which comes from unknown, kind of magical places in the subsoil. The word "Sorèl" can be poetically translated as "breath of the mountain": it’s a natural refrigerator that maintains constant temperature and humidity year round, since the air source keeps the cellar perfectly ventilated. It was there, in the Crotto, that cold cuts, cheeses and wine were artfully kept!

This wonderful property - full of awesome original details including stone, wood, bricks and wheels of the old work wagons of the crotto itself - consists of the main Crotto with an adjoining double garage, a lovely stone annex, an enviable flat garden on the front (with a stone table, as per the tradition of the ancient Crotti) and a large agricultural land with fruit trees on the back.

On the ground floor of the main building - characterized by the charming stone facade with porch and exposed brick arches - we have a spacious room with an original fireplace and a large cellar - the real heart of the crotto - with a spectacular stone vault. In the right wing we find a second smaller cellar and a service bathroom.

An internal staircase leads to the first floor, where as of today we have a single open plan room with large windows overlooking the lake, plus an additional room.

The small annex includes two rooms (vaulted cellar on the ground floor and single room upstairs) currently not connected internally.

Roof and slabs are in reinforced concrete.

The property is currently not habitable and is in need of several renovations to express its huge potential.
